Offense and classification. Under A.R.S. § 4-244(9), it is unlawful for a person under the legal drinking age to buy, receive, possess, or consume spirituous liquor . A violation of that paragraph is a class 1 misdemeanor: § 4-246(B) expressly elevates a violation of § 4-244, paragraph 9 to a class 1 misdemeanor, rather than the class 2 misdemeanor that § 4-246(A) makes the default for violations of this title .

Driving privilege. In addition to any other penalty prescribed by law, the court may suspend the privilege to drive of a person who is under eighteen years of age for a period of up to one hundred eighty days on receiving the record of the person's first conviction for a violation of § 4-244, paragraph 9 .

Section 4-246 classifies the offense and authorizes that suspension, but it does not itself prescribe a jail term or fine amount for a violation of § 4-244, paragraph 9 .
